Bavali River Retreat

The Bavali River Retreat at the Pazhassiraja Kalari Academy is nestled on the banks of the bavali river offers a cozy space to rewind away from the hustle and bustle of the urban.

The rooms - two in all have attached bathrooms with hot water provisions through geysers and washing machine in central laundry caters to immediate washing needs if one is staying a few days.  We offer home cooked meals to guests, if the guest prefers to cook on their own we have a kitchen located in a separate building behind the cottages. The Guest house is equipped with Wifi So one may catch up work or binge watch their favorite shows when the feeling too lazy to step out into the nearby village. The Bavali iver Retreat is just an hour’s drive away from the Kannur International Airport and if the guest wish to come by road you can explore and experience the drive through the ‘Malayora highway’

Under one roof, we offer the traditional kalari massage which has long been the preferred method of rejuvenation and also provide opportunity to learn the traditional martial art of the region. Classes are held at the training center, which is a beautifully crafted space every day.

What's Around?

The temples and ritual performances like Theyyam in north Kerala is a unique experience. The guests can enjoy the wildlife and farms around. For those who believe in making the most of one’s stay, there are these places: Mridanga Shaileshwari temple-the family deity of Pazhassiraja, Kottiyoor Siva temple, Pazhassi Dam and garden, Meenmutty falls, Brahmagiri falls, the Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary.

 

The Muzhappilangad Beach, which is the longest Drive-In Beach in Asia is just 48 km away. The local towns of Iritty and Peravoor were traditionally trading points where one still can explore the shops for various spices and handicrafts produced locally.

  • Muzhappilangad Beach: Muzhappilangad beach is the longest Drive-In Beach in Asia.  The beach is about 5 km long and curves in a wide area providing a good view of Kannur on the north. 

  • Mridanga Saileswari Temple: It is one among the 108 Durga temples of ancient Kerala, believed to have been installed by Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu. 

  • Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary: It is the northernmost wildlife sanctuary of Kerala, southwest India. It plays host to an exotic array of flora and fauna and is among the most picturesque locations in Kannur district.

  • Kottiyoor Siva Temple: The Kottiyoor Temple is highly revered in Kerala and neighbouring areas of adjoining states. The legend goes that the shrine is blessed with the divine presence of The Holy Trinity or The Trimurthy.

  • Pazhassi Dam: The Pazhassi Dam also called Kulur Barrage is a stone masonry diversion structure in Kannur district, Kerala, India. It is named after King Pazhassi Raja, a local warrior. The dam is constructed across the west flowing Valapattanam River.

  • Palukachimala: Palukachimala is a must see spot for nature lovers and trekkers. Located near Kottiyoor, this place is also a popular pilgrim destination as it embodies the power and divinity of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi.
